It is
the only real-time stacking product available in the market,
implementing multi-file / multi-volume tape sets during file allocation
time. It does not require any JCL changes and the data is recorded in
non-proprietary Standard Label Format. It solves
the problems caused by magnetic tape
storage capacity underuse, completely eliminating resource waste at the
tape library.
GFS/SOM - Storage Optimization Manager
It allows writing to disk the files
that would originally have been written to magnetic tapes. This
mechanism is totally transparent to production and releases processing
capacity and time to execute critical tasks. Later, when it is more
convenient for production, the files are then released or moved to tapes
in an optimized manner, taking full advantage of their storage capacity.
